Become a Young Consultant

Use your voice. Change the system. Inspire others.

CREATE Young Consultants are young leaders who use their voices to create real change for children and young people in care. They’re the driving force behind everything we do - speaking up, sharing stories, and helping to make the care system better for everyone.

When you become a Young Consultant (YC), you join an amazing group of young people across Australia who are turning their lived experience into leadership, advocacy, and opportunity.

What’s a Young Consultant?

Young Consultants represent CREATE and speak up for children and young people with a care experience.
They work with CREATE as passionate advocates who share their voices, stories, and ideas to help make the care system better.

As a YC, You’ll:
  • Share your views and experiences to improve the system

  • Co-facilitate workshops and training for workers, carers, and decision-makers

  • Help shape and speak at CREATE events and forums

  • Represent CREATE in meetings, media, and community spaces

  • Inspire other young people to find their voice

Every YC brings their own Personality, Ideas, and Strengths - and together, we make a big impact.

“Being a Young Consultant helped me realise my voice can actually change things. I went from being nervous to leading workshops and speaking on stage!” – Young Consultant, NSW

Why Become a Young Consultant?

Because your experience matters - and your voice can spark change.

You’ll Also:
  • Gain confidence, communication, and leadership skills

  • Meet other amazing young people with care experience

  • Be part of something bigger - a national movement for change

  • Build your resume and learn skills that help for life - from teamwork to public speaking to professional networking

How Do I Become a Young Consultant?

Step 1: Join clubCREATE

Through events so children and young people in care can meet others in similar situations, reducing isolation and making them feel less alone

Step 2: Do Speak Up Level 1

Through programs like Youth Advisory Groups and Speak Up training that help young people find their voice

Step 3: Become a Young Consultant

Alongside young people, bringing their voices to the people who make decisions, so policies and systems get better and safer for kids in care

About Speak Up

Speak Up is the first step toward becoming a Young Consultant. It’s a fun, hands-on workshop series where you’ll:

  • Build confidence and self-awareness

  • Learn how to communicate and advocate safely

  • Understand your rights and how the care system works

  • Work as part of a team to create change

There are Three Levels of Speak Up:

Level 1 – Individual Advocacy
Learn about your strengths and how to speak up for yourself.

Level 2 – Systemic Advocacy
Step up your advocacy game and learn how to change the system.

Level 3 – Advanced Systemic Advocacy
Lead, facilitate, and represent CREATE at a national level.

“Speak Up gave me the tools to share my story and make a difference - not just for me, but for others too.” - Sharney, CREATE Young Consultant

This website was built in consultation with children and young people with a care experience. Thank you to all the young people involved in providing feedback and sharing your insights throughout this process.

CREATE Foundation acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Peoples and Traditional Owners of the lands, skies and waters where we live and work. We pay deep respect to Elders, knowledge holders and community leaders across all Aboriginal communities.

We acknowledge that Australia is culturally rich with the oldest living cultures on earth. And we acknowledge over 60,000 years of growing kids strong, connected to culture and Country.
